Lord of the Rubber Rings

Llewtrah the Otter has alerted me to the scandal that is going on in Cornwall where Bilbo the 14 stone Life-saving Newfoundland is being dumped by the RNLI as a lifesaver because of the ban on dogs on beaches.
Talk about elfin safety!
They'll be prosecuting home-owners for smoking at home next because it is the burglar's place of work. (ed..they already have, keep up Murph!).
"The RNLI does not want anything to do with him as regards life-saving," fumed Bilbo's owner Steve Jamieson, head lifeguard at Sennen Cove, near Land's End, who credits his companion with helping save three lives.
"To me it is a scandal, because Bilbo by far has been the biggest educational tool in this country since Lassie. If you drive through St Ives with his head sticking out the window, it is like the Pied Piper. Kids are running down the street screaming 'Bilbo, Bilbo'."
I'm full of admiration for the Bilbster, but have a slight concern that the juxtaposition of the words "working" and "dogs" may significantly erode the status myself and my colleagues have built up as "purely decorative".
I don't want anyone getting it into their heads that we have to justify our existence economically or be out-sourced and PFI'd.

"We've always donated to the RNLI, but this has given us pause for thought."

That was you, wasn't it Murph?

Paws for thought, yes Geoff.

The trouble having a dog rushing into the sea to fetch people back is that it will then sit there, wagging its tail, waiting for you to throw someone else in.

I checked up on PFI and find it is The 'Percy FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology'.
Is this a Norfolk term for 'getting the bird'?

Dave: Trust you to spot a highly logical flaw!

Kaz: Patrick was always the less demanding one in the relationship. I bet you birders are in the air now anyway.

Tell Mr. P that you'll earn your Bakers C.S. when he gets you some chickens and a grate to bark through.

CB: Well done for linking two posts with a good idea!

Glad to see you're on the case Murph. It's a scandal, a real ruff deal.
